Appreciation for God’s Gifts

“Every true gift that is found in your hands is there because of the Father of Light who always gives good gifts.” — Teaching of Mir Izgadda 4:3

In this passage, our Divine Teacher echoes the thought expressed by the Apostle James when he said, “Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good and perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no change, not even a shadow of variation.” (EpJ 1:8) Have you ever taken a moment and thought about the many blessings that you have received through your knowledge of the Religion of Light? On the other hand, have you ever thought about the Religion of Light as a blessing itself?

Truly, the Religion of Light, which originates with the “Father of Lights”, is a gift to humanity. It is a life-saving gift that can lift up the soul from the darkness and mire of humanity’s chaotic existence. (Read the Teaching of Mir Izgadda 3:5-7; Gospel of Mar Mani 33:5)

It is a good practice to contemplate on the many blessings that each of us have received from our God and through His appointed Messengers. We should view all that is provided to us by the Father as “good gifts.” Let us always have appreciation for all these gifts — great or small, and give thanks to God for everything we have received yesterday, today and for those that we will receive tomorrow. Our blessed Teacher says, “One way you can show your appreciation for the blessing you receive each day and the beauty of the creation which you experience, is to give heartfelt thanks to the Father of Greatness.” (Teaching of Mir Izgadda 4:6)

“I will give thanks to You, Supreme Master, amongst the peoples. I will sing praises to You amongst the nations. For Your great loving kindness reaches to the heavens, and Your truth to the skies.” (Psalms of Israel 11:4-7)
